URGENT! Stop KOSA!
Hey all, this is BáiYù and Sauce here with something that isn't necessarily SnaccPop related, but it's important nonetheless. For those of you who follow US politics, The Kids Online Safety Act passed the Senate yesterday and is moving forward.
This is bad news for everyone on the internet, even outside of the USA.
What is KOSA?
While it's officially known as "The Kids Online Safety Act," KOSA is an internet censorship masquerading as another "protect the children" bill, much in the same way SESTA/FOSTA claimed that it would stop illegal sex trafficking but instead hurt sex workers and their safety. KOSA was originally introduced by Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass. and Bill Cassidy, R-La. as a way to update the 1998 Children’s Online Privacy Act, raising the age of consent for data collection to 16 among other things. You can read the original press release of KOSA here, while you can read the full updated text of the bill on the official USA Congress website.
You can read the following articles about KOSA here:
EFF: The Kids Online Safety Act is Still A Huge Danger to Our Rights Online
CyberScoop: Children’s online safety bills clear Senate hurdle despite strong civil liberties pushback
TeenVogue: The Kids Online Safety Act Would Harm LGBTQ+ Youth, Restrict Access to Information and Community
The quick TL;DR:
KOSA authorizes an individual state attorneys general to decide what might harm minors
Websites will likely preemptively remove and ban content to avoid upsetting state attorneys generals (this will likely be topics such as abortion, queerness, feminism, sexual content, and others)
In order for a platform to know which users are minors, they'll require a more invasive age and personal data verification method
Parents will be granted more surveillance tools to see what their children are doing on the web
KOSA is supported by Christofascists and those seeking to harm the LGBTQ+ community
If a website holding personally identifying information and government documents is hacked, that's a major cybersecurity breach waiting to happen
What Does This Mean?
You don't have to look far to see or hear about the violence being done to the neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ communities worldwide, who are oftentimes one and the same. Social media sites censoring discussion of these topics would stand to do even further harm to folks who lack access to local resources to understand themselves and the hardships they face; in addition, the fact that websites would likely store personally identifying information and government documents means the death of any notion of privacy.
Sex workers and those living in certain countries already are at risk of losing their ways of life, living in a reality where their online activities are closely surveilled; if KOSA officially becomes law, this will become a reality for many more people and endanger those at the fringes of society even worse than it already is.
Why This Matters Outside of The USA
I previously mentioned SESTA/FOSTA, which passed and became US law in 2018. This bill enabled many of the anti-adult content attitudes that many popular websites are taking these days as well as the tightening of restrictions laid down by payment processors. Companies and sites hosted in the USA have to follow US laws even if they're accessible worldwide, meaning that folks overseas suffer as well.
What Can You Do?
If you're a US citizen, contact your Senators and tell them that you oppose KOSA. This can be as an email, letter, or phone call that you make to your state Senator.
For resources on how to do so, view the following links:
https://www.badinternetbills.com/#kosa
https://www.stopkosa.com/
https://linktr.ee/stopkosa
If you live outside of the US or cannot vote, the best thing you can do is sign the petition at the Stop KOSA website, alert your US friends about what's happening, and raise some noise.
Above all else, don’t panic. By staying informed by what’s going on, you can prepare for the legal battles ahead.

Timbern Be More Chill AU!
semi thought out plot under the cut
Bernard isn't exactly the most popular junior at Louis E. Grieve Memorial High School. Which is fine, all he needs is to get through the next couple years. He does have one problem, however. That is that Darla Aquista, the girl that he's obsessively crushed on for years, hardly notices him.
One of the popular guys mentions something about a highly advanced technology from Japan—a Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor. Something that'll get rid of all your problems, make you cool, get you the girl. He'd hook Bernard up with a Squip for just one upfront payment.
His best friend, Tim, wasn't all for it. $600 for some pill-sized supercomputer? Definitely a scam... but Bernard had to try.
Bernard, left alone after taking it, was shot with pain throughout his entire body. Once recovered from his writing in agony, a Chaos Monster, a rumoured creature that existed in Gotham, beings that served Dionysus, stood before him. He'd always had a sick fascination with them.
The creature was degrading and snide, spewed hurtful words about Bernard, but he promised a future in which Bernard was 'chill'. One where Darla was practically begging to be with him. And could that really be so bad?
Next thing Tim knew, he was being ignored in the hallways, as his online chat messages were left unanswered. He really needed to figure out what this Squip thing is.
Tim may have access to Bat tech, but he doesn't need Bruce getting involved, so he goes directly to the only other person who could help: Dick.
Dick knew of them. Of course he did. Some friend's friend was driven insane trying to get it out. And apparently all Tim needed to save his friend was Mountain Dew Red. Should be easy enough.

Thinking about how to push out the shitty centrists in both media and the Democratic party that're in no small part responsible for why things keep getting worse, and i had some hypotheses.
Firstly, on a deep level, I'm thinking about that inverted pyramid" theory of power that Daniel Hunter's talked about.
The basic idea is that instead of looking at them as being strictly "at the top," you look at them as a teetering pyramid on its tip, held up by various support "pillars," such as allies, funders, infrastructure, ect.
(This, by the by, is how Exodus Cry started making online censorship worse via attacking payment processors. We probably should attack them and the people pushing crap like KOSA, which will probably worsten under a Trump admin, but that's another topic)
What we should do is make a list of, like, 100 influential centrists letting the things that keep us from fighting the fash/making things better stick around, and list the pillars of them we need to attack.
Matt Yglesias and Jesse Singal immediately come to mind in terms of journalism. Not sure which DNC heads are the ones to best target, but I'd presume @afloweroutofstone would be able to chime in.
On a lighter note, I think we need to find a good Kung Pow Penis equivalent for the people on this list.
Or like, multiples of them tailored to each dipshit, given one of Hunter's pieces of advice is "don't repeat tactics too often." Just something that's not illegal but annoying as hell and easily repeatable until they leave.
Because if there's one thing we know about these fuckers, is that they cannot take a joke. So, that's at least one pillar for most of them, albeit smaller than others we'd want to find.
And finally, I think a good slogan for this movement, given how much this election resembles '04, is "Centrist Dems Have Been Failing Us For Over 20 Slutty, Slutty Years"
It's catchy, irreverent, and a bit crass in a way that @mostlysignssomeportents has talked about as a feature, not a bug.
Of course, then there's the problem, Who will bell the cat? And to that I'll say, look at your lives and organizational skills to see if you might be right for it...

One of the things I truly hate about sexual content being treated as radioactive by tech companies (and advertisers, and payment processors, and Apple, and politicians, etc): it wouldn't actually be that hard to make nice sex-focused spaces online. You could prevent unsolicited dick pics by making "let strangers send pictures" opt-in. You could have a reputation system that allowed anonymous asks but penalized unwelcome ones. You could kick people off the platform for being creeps, instead of letting them drive people off the platform!
But nobody is going to build all that stuff, because on "reputable" platforms, sex content is at best tolerated. So we end up with the current system, where "get harassed by strangers if you become popular at all" is the price of entry.

As much as I complain about the (at its core, justified) backlash to corporate AI going in counterproductive-at-best directions here, I would like to take a moment to talk about what I would like to see done about the problem of corporate swarming all over AI as a moneymaking fad.
First, I must address the true root of the problem: as we all know, a lot of the types of people known derogatorily as techbros jumped ship from cryptocurrency and NFTs to AI after crypto crashed...multiple times. Why AI? Why was it the next big thing?
Well, why was crypto the previous? Because it was novel and unregulated. Why did it crash? Because of the threat of regulation.
It is worth mentioning, at this point, that the threat of regulation ended up doing massive harm to people who used crypto for reasons OTHER than speculative investment scams. This included a lot of people who engaged in business that is illegal but lifesaving (e.g., gray-market pharmaceuticals), and people who engaged in business that is technically legal but de facto illegal due to payment processors hating it (e.g., porn and other online sex work) - i.e., a lot of extremely vulnerable people. Stick a pin in this, it will be important.
AI is a novel and largely unregulated field. This makes it EXTREMELY appealing to venture capitalists and speculative investors - they can fuck around and do basically whatever they want with little to no oversight, and jump ship the moment someone says "all right, this is ridiculous you CANNOT just keep pretending it's a rare fluke when your beefed-up autocomplete chat bot makes up garbage information, and the next clown who decides that a probability function trained on the ableism and pop-psych poisoned broader internet is a viable substitute for trained mental health counselors is losing any licenses they have and/or getting fined into bankruptcy." They've always been like this - when technology is too new for us to even know how we SHOULD regulate it, the greedy capitalists flock to it, hoping to cash out quick before an ounce of responsibility catches up to them, doubly so when it's in a broader field that's already notoriously underregulated, such as the tech sector in the US right now.
That tendency is bad for literally everyone else in the process.
Remember what I said about how the crypto crackdown hurt a lot of very vulnerable people? Well, developers aren't lying when they say that AI can have extremely valuable, pro-human applications, from AAC (which it's already serving as; this is, imo, THE most valuable function of ChatGPT), to health and safety - while we absolutely should not entrust things like reading medical images and safety inspections to AI without oversight, with oversight it's already helping us find cancers faster, because while computers are fallible, so are humans, and we're fallible in different ways. When AI is developed with human-focused applications in mind over profit-focused ones, it can very easily become another slice of Swiss cheese to add to one of our most useful safety models.
It can also be used for automation...for better, and for worse. Of course, CEOs and investors are currently making a hard push for "worse".
That's why I find it very important to come up with a comprehensive plan to regulate AI and tech in general against false advertisement/scams and outright endangerment, without cutting too deep into the potential it has for being genuinely good.
My proposals are as follows:
PRI. VA. CY. LAW. PRIVACY LAW. PRIVACY LAW. As it stands now, US law regarding online privacy and data security - which is extremely pertinent because most of the most unscrupulous developers are US-based - is at best a vicious free-for-all that operates entirely on manufactured "consent", and at worst actively hostile to everyone but corporate interests. We need to change that ASAP. As it stands, robots.txt instructions (and other similar things, such as Do Not Track flags) are legally...a polite request that developers are 100% allowed to just ignore if they feel like it. The entire mainstream internet is spyware. This needs to change. We need to impose penalties for bypassing others' privacy preferences and bring the US up to speed with the EU when it comes to privacy and data security. This will solve the problem that many are counterproductively trying to solve by tightening copyright law with more side benefits and none of the drawbacks.
Health and safety audits and false advertising crackdowns. Penalties must be imposed on entities who knowingly use AI in inappropriate and unsafe applications, and on AI developers who misrepresent the utility of their tools or downplay their potential for inaccuracy. Companies using AI in products with obvious potential hazards, from robotics to counseling, are subject to safety audits to make absolutely sure they're not cutting corners or understating risks. Developers who are found to be understating the limitations of their software or cutting safety features are subject to fines and loss of licenses.
Robust union protections, automation taxes, and beefing up unemployment/layoff protection. Where automation can and cannot be used in the professional sector should never be a matter of law beyond the safety aspect, but automation rollouts do always come with drawbacks - both in the form of layoffs, and in the form of complicating the workflow in the name of saving a buck. The government cannot make sweeping judgments about how this will work, because it's literally impossible for them to account for every possibility, but they CAN back unions who can. Workers know their workflow best, and thus need the power to say, for instance, "no, I need to be able to communicate with whoever does this step, we will not abide by it being automated without oversight or only overseen by someone we can't communicate with adequately, that pushes the rest of our jobs WAY beyond our pay grade" or "no, we're already operating on a skeleton crew, we will accept this tool ONLY if there are no layoffs or pay cuts; it should be about getting our workload to a SUSTAINABLE level, not overworking even fewer of us". Automation taxes can also both serve as an incentive for bosses to take more time considering what they do and do not want to automate, and contribute to unemployment/layoff protection (and eventually UBI). This will ensure that workers will be protected, even when they're not in fields as visible and publicly appreciated as arts.
In conclusion, the AI situation is a complicated one that needs nuance, and it needs to be approached and regulated in a pro-human, pro-privacy way.

Due to factors outside our control, we need to create a new page for donations, and are currently working on it!
For the time being, though, you can make tax-deductible donations to Scarleteen securely via a PayPal account, debit or credit card through UNHUSHED, our current fiscal sponsor (and we'll tell you more on that change soon!) here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/
If you want to be filled in as to what's going on a little:
Tomorrow will usher in month 3 of a lack of service -- and without ever giving us any notice or even acknowledgement there were problems or changes until we contacted them weeks after the fact -- from Network for Good, the third-party charitable payment processor we've been clients of, in perfect standing, for 12 years.
We are not the only organization who have had or are currently having issues with them. Over at least the last week, they have had apparent technical issues that created problems for many others who use them for online donations.
We have been having these but also different  and additional issues with them since the start of the year. During this time, we have not seen any of our recurring donors payments run in our reports (we get conflicting information from them about if they have or have not) save one or two,  and new donors have been unable to make donations.
After a not-insubstantial amount of work to even find a way to speak with someone there, we were told our issue required us to change fiscal sponsors to fix it, and that that once we did, everything would go back to normal and recurring donors whose payments were not run would be. Despite the great time and labor, not to mention the questionable inconvenience of all of us involved, in doing that by 2/7, nothing has changed since. We continue to get little to no communication back from them, and when we do, it is often conflicting, obtuse or avoidant.
This has so far caused us to go without a portion of our budget and so is, as it likely is for any other organization having issues, leaving us in a precarious financial position. It clearly is time to seek out legal help. We're in the process of doing that. In the event you are or know a lawyer who this sounds like a great fit for, please drop us a line.
I do not think  that anyone's information or donations aren't safe and secure at Network for Good. However, please do what feels best for you. We are currently setting up with a new and additional online third-party processor now on top of having that direct link up there, and will email all of our existing recurring and current one-time donors with that information once we have it. - HC

How does unregulated forex trading benefit from a multi-currency payment processing gateway?
How does unregulated forex trading benefit from a multi-currency payment processing gateway?
Unregulated Forex Trading and Multi-Currency Payment Processing Gateway
Unregulated forex trading can benefit from a multi-currency payment processing gateway in several ways:
Access to Multiple Currencies:
A "multi-currency payment processing gateway" allows unregulated forex trading platforms to offer their clients the ability to deposit and withdraw funds in various currencies. This can attract traders from different parts of the world who prefer to trade in their local currencies, thereby expanding the platform's user base.
Enhanced Convenience for Traders:
Traders can make deposits and withdrawals in their preferred currencies without having to worry about currency conversion fees or fluctuations. This convenience can improve the overall trading experience and attract more traders to the platform.
Reduced Transaction Costs:
By utilizing a multi-currency "payment processing gateway", unregulated forex trading platforms can potentially reduce transaction costs associated with currency conversion. This can lead to cost savings for both the platform and its clients.
Competitive Advantage:
Offering a "multi-currency payment processing gateway" can be a competitive differentiator for unregulated forex trading platforms. It demonstrates a commitment to providing a global and inclusive trading environment, potentially setting them apart from competitors.
Mitigation of Foreign Exchange Risks:
With a "multi-currency payment processing gateway", unregulated forex trading platforms can mitigate foreign exchange risks associated with handling multiple currencies, as the gateway may offer features to manage such risks effectively.
Expansion Opportunities:
Access to a multi-currency "payment processing gateway" can open up opportunities for unregulated forex trading platforms to expand into new markets where traders prefer transacting in their local currencies.
In conclusion, a "multi-currency payment processing gateway" can provide unregulated forex trading platforms with the means to attract a broader client base, improve convenience, reduce costs, and gain a competitive edge in the market. However, it's "important to note that unregulated forex trading" carries significant risks, and traders should exercise caution when engaging in such activities.
Write a step-by-step guide on integrating a payment gateway with a website?
"Integrating a payment gateway" with a website involves several steps to ensure smooth and secure transactions. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Choose a Payment Gateway Provider:
Research and select a "payment gateway" provider that suits your business needs. Consider factors like transaction fees, supported currencies, security features, and ease of integration.
Create an Account:
Sign up for an account with the chosen "payment gateway provider". Provide necessary information about your business, such as contact details, bank account information, and website URL.
Get API Credentials:
After creating an account, you'll receive API credentials (e.g., API keys, merchant ID, secret keys) from the payment gateway provider. These credentials are necessary to authenticate your website's requests to the payment gateway.
Review Documentation:
Familiarize yourself with the documentation provided by "the payment gateway provider". Understand the APIs, SDKs, and integration methods available, along with any specific requirements or limitations.
Set Up Sandbox/Test Environment:
Most payment gateway providers offer a sandbox or test environment to simulate transactions without processing real payments. Set up your development environment to use this sandbox for testing purposes.
Integrate Payment Gateway into Website:
Depending on your website platform and programming language, integration methods may vary. Common integration methods include:
Direct API Integration: Use the payment gateway's APIs to process payments directly on your website.
Hosted Payment Page: Redirect users to a secure payment page hosted by the payment gateway provider.
Payment Plugins/Modules: Use pre-built plugins or modules provided by the "payment gateway" for popular platforms like WordPress, Magento, or Shopify.
Implement Payment Workflow:
Implement the payment workflow on your website:
Display payment options to users during checkout.
Collect necessary payment information securely (e.g., credit card details, billing address).
Use SSL encryption to protect sensitive data transmission.
Validate user input and handle errors gracefully.
Test Transactions:
Conduct thorough testing of the payment integration in the sandbox environment:
Test various scenarios (e.g., successful transactions, declined payments, refunds).
Verify that payment confirmation and error messages are displayed correctly.
Ensure that payment data is transmitted securely and that sensitive information is handled according to compliance standards (e.g., PCI DSS).
Go Live: Once you're confident that the integration is working correctly, switch to the live environment provided by the payment gateway. Update your website's configuration to use live API credentials.
Monitor and Maintain: Regularly monitor transaction activity and performance. Stay informed about updates or changes from the payment gateway provider, and keep your integration up to date with any new features or security enhancements.
By following these steps, you can successfully "integrate a payment gateway" with your website, enabling secure and convenient online transactions for your customers.

A Human-Centric Approach
VGen takes a strong stance against AI integration. Until generative AI:
Is 100% opt-in
Gives credit to contributing artists
Provides royalties to contributing artists
VGen will remain human-centric. Their dedication to supporting and empowering humans takes precedence. We prioritize your art and ensure it’s protected against unauthorized use.
NSFW Policy
VGen allows adult content but draws a clear line when it comes to pornography. All adult content on commission services and portfolio showcases must be appropriately tagged. This approach is influenced by payment processors’ restrictions, such as Stripe and PayPal, which prohibit explicit adult content.
“Skeb-like” Commissions on VGen
VGen fully supports “Skeb-like” commissions. To offer the best client experience, they recommend the following setup:
Service Naming: Use “Surprise me” as the service name for clarity.
Clear Description: Include a comprehensive description of how your “Surprise me” commissions work.
Flexible Pricing: Allow clients to offer a Pay What You Want (PWYW) amount, with a specified minimum.
VGen’s Fees
At VGen, they believe in transparent pricing. There are no upfront or monthly fees; they charge a 5% service fee along with usual payment processing fees to artists only when a commission is secured. Clients are responsible for their currency conversion fees.
VGen Payments (Stripe)
For US-based artists: VGen service fee (5%), Stripe payment processing fee (2.9% + $0.30)
For non-US artists: VGen service fee (5%), Stripe payment processing fee (2.9% + $0.30), Stripe international payout fee (varies by country)
PayPal
VGen service fee (5%), PayPal fees as per PayPal’s terms
